Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No hot water Pilot light out, gas supply off, thermocouple issue Relight pilot, check gas valve, replace thermocouple if needed
Insufficient hot water Undersized unit, high demand, sediment buildup Check unit size, reduce simultaneous use, flush tank
Water too hot Temperature setting too high, thermostat malfunction Adjust temperature setting, check/replace thermostat
Pilot won't stay lit Dirty pilot, faulty thermocouple, gas pressure issue Clean pilot orifice, replace thermocouple, check gas pressure
Discolored water Corroded anode rod, sediment in tank Replace anode rod, flush tank thoroughly
Rumbling noises Sediment buildup at bottom of tank Drain and flush tank to remove sediment

Maintenance Schedule

  • Monthly: Check temperature and pressure relief valve operation
  • Every 6 Months: Inspect anode rod and flush a few gallons from tank
  • Annually: Full tank flush and comprehensive inspection
  • Every 3-5 Years: Replace anode rod (depending on water quality)
  • As Needed: Clean burner assembly and check gas connections
